Exploring Senegal

Safari Tours GambiaAfter pick up from all hotels early in the morning we drive directly to the ferry terminal in Banjul the capital city of the Gambia which was founded by an English gorvenor Sir Alexander Grant in 1816.

The ferry we will use to cross to the northern part of the Gambia is from Denmark.Well onboard the ferry we have time to eat our breakfast (included in the price) whiles we have a glimpse of the morning Gambian life when Gambians are going to work and the senegalese business men and women heading back home to Senegal with goods bought from the Albert market in Banjul, because dress materials are more cheaper here in the Gambia than in Senegal.

If lucky we can see some dolphins jumping and fishing their breakfast from a distance.

Upon arrival in Barra on the northern side of the river we continue on towards Senegal by the Gambian border Amdalai we have our passports stamps form whereon we enter Senegal where we also stamp our passports one more time. Officially we are in Senegal and continue on towards Toubacouta where we will have a break in hotel Les Paletuviers which means The Mangrove.

Here in Les Paletuviers we have a 15 minutes break for those wishing to visit the toilet.

From the hotel we take a boat on the river Saloum to SIPPO a typical Island village where the inhabitant depends entirely on fishing. Here on Sippo there are four different tribes namely mandingoes, wollof, jolas, and sereres who are there to fish at special times of the year. The chief  or village head on the Island is a woman rare in Africa who is also a medicine woman & a witch doctor and gets her medicines from the different types of trees on the island since there is no hospital, electricity, telephone, ambulance or water supply on the Island their only way of communication is by rowing small canoes to come to the mainland.

Still on the island we will experience how this people live though poor but still very happy with life as they take things as it comes.

After the visit on the Island we head back for the hotel where upon arrival we will be served with a very delicious and unforgettable meal (included in the price). After the lunch we have an hour break in the hotel where we can relax by the pool and those feeling like swimming can do so in the pool (in picture below).

After the break we jump on the safari truck for Missira where we will drive through the savannah and the lagoon and later on sighting the biggest silk cotton tree in Sene-gambia (unmissable). From here we drive towards the border for an exit stamp and then back to the Gambia.

A day full of excitement and experience of real Africa, its culture & tradition and meeting people you never think exists.

Obs: take along your passport swimming suits & a towel.
